Journey to Good Sleep: Empowering Clinicians in Elevating Sleep Health
As the Philippines currently faces a “sleep epidemic,” ranking as the most sleep-deprived country in Southeast Asia and 4th globally, with nearly 60% of Filipinos suffering from a lack of sleep, the call for the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine (PSSM) to empower clinicians in elevating sleep health is urgent.
Guided by the Society’s mission of improving sleep health in the Philippines by educating professionals on sleep disorders, the PSSM focuses on the significant role clinicians play in addressing the nation’s sleep crisis in the PSSM 19th Annual Convention with the theme “Journey to Good Sleep, Empowering Clinicians in Elevating Sleep Health,” happening on 18-20 March 2026 at the Acacia Hotel, Davao City.
For the past 24 years, PSSM has made education a priority. By educating professionals on sleep disorders, the Society can bridge the basic gaps in knowledge and clinical assessment resulting in high confidence among practitioners when addressing sleep-related complaints, improve recognition and diagnosis, provide multidisciplinary care for comprehensive management, and address high prevalence of chronic sleep issues.
“With the growing population suffering from chronic sleep issues in the country, there is an urgent need for the Society to develop and empower more highly competent clinicians to handle the high demand for care, which often exceeds the capacity of specialized sleep clinics,” shared PSSM President Dr. Jimmy Chang.
The three-day convention will kickstart with a series of lectures and skills workshop on polysomnography where highly competent sleep specialists and registered polysomnographic technicians come together to share their expertise. This is followed by another two days of groundbreaking lectures designed to empower the Filipino clinician at every stage of their practice with topics such as screening for sleep disorders, pediatric & adult sleep related breathing disorders, sleep in neurology, circadian rhythm disorders and sleep policy, public health and lifestyle taking center stage.
In conjunction with the convention, there will be a General Assembly of PSSM leaders and fellows to discuss matters on governance, standards and policies, and organizational issues and concerns—including resolutions to be reviewed and passed for the current term. A fellowship night is also slated where PSSM fellows unite in camaraderie to strengthen ties and build a network dedicated to sleep health. On the last day of the convention, an induction ceremony will be held for the 10 successful examinees of the recent certifying exam given by the Philippine Board of Sleep Medicine last October, 2025 during the annual business meeting.
Around 300 delegates across the Philippines are expected to attend this year’s event. Interested parties may choose from two convention registration options: (1) Post-Graduate Course and Annual Convention at these rates: Early Bird Rate (until January 31, 2026)-Php3,000 and Regular/On-Site (February 1, 2026 onwards)-Php3,500 and (2) Annual Convention only at these rates: Early Bird Rate (until January 31, 2026)-Php2,500 and Regular/On-Site (February 1, 2026 onwards)-Php3,000.
